Cannabis Cultivation House Bust: Man Hiding in Peterborough Loft Sentenced

A cannabis cultivation operation in Peterborough has come to an end with the sentencing of Karolis Ceponis, who was found hiding in the loft of the converted home.

Police Raid Uncovers Hidden Cannabis Factory

On June 11, 2021, officers responded to a suspicious house on Mountbatten Way, Peterborough. They noticed Karolis Ceponis, 31, entering the residence, which raised red flags about potential illegal activities.

The police knocked but received no response. Determined, they forced entry into the house. What they found was surprising—a fully equipped cannabis factory spread across the entire home.

Inside, officers seized 84 cannabis plants from every room. The street value of the haul? Up to £70,560. Alongside the plants, books on cannabis cultivation were scattered on the coffee table, indicating serious intent.

Man Admits Involvement, Claims Mafia Coercion

While searching, the police discovered Ceponis hiding under the loft insulation. Upon arrest, he confessed to producing cannabis at the property.

But his story doesn’t end there. Ceponis claimed he was coerced into the operation by the Polish mafia. According to him, he owed a £10,000 debt and had no choice but to comply. He even mentioned that the mafia provided instructions on where to hide if the authorities came knocking.

This revelation points to a deeper issue of organized crime’s influence on small-scale operations. The involvement of criminal syndicates in cannabis cultivation raises concerns about the broader implications for community safety and law enforcement.
