London Corner Resident Arraigned for Possession of 1.321g of Cannabis

A resident of London Corner, Sulayman Camara, was brought before Magistrate B. Sowe at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on charges of possessing 1.321 grams of Cannabis Sativa. The alleged offense occurred on September 14, 2023, within the Kanifing Municipality. Camara, however, denied the charge, stating that no cannabis was found on him.

Details of the Case and Court Proceedings

The prosecution claims Sulayman Camara was caught with 1 gram and 321 milligrams of Cannabis Sativa without a valid license. Under Gambian law, possession of cannabis without proper authorization is a criminal offense. The defendant, however, insisted in court, “They didn’t find anything on me,” maintaining his innocence.

The prosecution sought an adjournment to prepare its witnesses, which was granted by the court. As a result, the case was adjourned for a later hearing date.

Bail Conditions and Next Steps

Magistrate B. Sowe set the bail at D130,000 with two sureties. The sureties are required to deposit their valid national ID cards and swear to an affidavit of means, ensuring their financial capacity to cover the bail amount if needed.

The case has been adjourned to Thursday, October 31, for the hearing, at which point the prosecution is expected to present its witnesses to further support its case against Camara.
