In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized more than S$321,000 worth of drugs over the course of two operations conducted on October 18 and 19. The operations resulted in the arrest of four suspected drug offenders and the confiscation of a large quantity of narcotics, including 6kg of cannabis.
Drug Seizures and Arrests in Bedok
On October 18, CNB officers intercepted a car near Bedok North Avenue 3 and Bedok North Road, leading to the arrest of two Singaporeans—a 36-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. The search uncovered a range of narcotics, including:
- 531g of Ice
- 126g of ketamine
- 107g of cannabis
- 100g of Ecstasy
- 370 Erimin-5 tablets
- 139g of cannabis-laced gummies
The drugs, valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars, were reportedly intended to feed the addiction of around 1,310 drug abusers for a week, according to CNB’s estimates.
Major Cannabis Haul in Fernvale
The next day, on October 19, CNB officers arrested a 32-year-old Malaysian man at his residential unit on Fernvale Street, where they found a small amount of ketamine. Shortly after, they arrested a 24-year-old Singaporean man near Fernvale Link.
A subsequent search of the latter’s residence uncovered a major drug stash, including:
- 6.2kg of cannabis
- 472g of Ecstasy
- 238g of Ice
- 3,081 Erimin-5 tablets
- 42 vaping devices containing cannabis
- Six packets of cannabis-laced gummies
Serious Penalties for Drug Trafficking
Investigations are ongoing into the activities of the four suspects. Under Singapore’s strict Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) 1973, drug trafficking offenses carry severe penalties, including the mandatory death penalty for trafficking more than 500g of cannabis or 250g of methamphetamine.
The CNB continues its aggressive efforts to combat the trafficking and distribution of controlled substances across the city-state.
