Portland Pickles Make History by Selling Cannabis-Based Products at Live Events

The Portland Pickles, a collegiate summer baseball team based in the Pacific Northwest, have achieved a groundbreaking milestone. They are the first sports team in the United States to legally sell cannabis-based products during live events. Here’s what you need to know:

The Portland Pickles recently announced an exclusive partnership with Cycling Frog, a company specializing in THC-based seltzer drinks. These drinks, derived from hemp, made their debut at Walker Stadium on Tuesday night. Stadium vendors now offer two flavors: Passionfruit and Lemon. Each can contains two milligrams of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and four milligrams of CBD (cannabidiol). The product is available only to fans aged 21 and older.

Setting a Precedent

Ross Campbell, Vice President of Business Development for the Pickles, emphasized their responsibility in the sports industry to set innovative precedents. The team previously made history in 2019 by becoming the first to partner with a CBD company. Now, they continue to lead the way by introducing THC-based products to fans during games.

Legal Context

The sale of THC products is legal in Oregon, and the Pickles consulted with the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission and Portland Parks and Recreation (which owns Walker Stadium) to ensure compliance.
