What Times of Cannabis is
TIMES OF CANNABIS is an independent news publication covering the cannabis world as a serious beat. Our coverage runs across five desks: legalization and policy, the business of the cannabis industry, medical and scientific research, culture, and products. We treat each of those the way a good newspaper treats a specialist section, with its own sourcing habits and its own standards for what counts as a story.
One thing should be understood from the first paragraph. This site reports on cannabis. It does not sell cannabis, does not broker it, does not ship it, and does not connect buyers with sellers. There is no shop attached to this publication and there never will be. If you arrived here looking to purchase something, we are not that kind of website, and our disclaimer explains the boundary in full.
Why the beat needs a newsroom
Cannabis sits at an unusual junction. It is a regulated legal market in some jurisdictions, a medical program in others, and a prohibited substance in many more, sometimes all three within the same country. The law changes by the month. Companies in the sector announce more than they deliver. Scientific findings get compressed into miracle headlines by outlets that never read the underlying paper. In between all of that are ordinary readers trying to work out what a new statute actually says, whether a company claim holds up, or what a study genuinely found.
Most coverage of this subject comes from one of two camps: advocacy publications that treat every development as a victory or a betrayal, and general outlets that parachute in for the sensational stories and leave. We think the subject deserves what any other regulated industry gets, which is patient, skeptical, well-sourced reporting from people who follow it every day and have no stake in cheering for it.
What each desk does
- Legalization and policy. We read the bills, the regulations, the court rulings, and the agency guidance in their original text before we characterize them. A summary of a summary is not reporting.
- Business and industry. Licensing, markets, mergers, earnings, layoffs, and the persistent gap between what cannabis companies project and what they report. We cover the industry; we do not promote it.
- Medical research. We report studies with their limits attached: sample size, methodology, funding source, and what the researchers themselves say the work does not show. Our editorial standards forbid hype in science coverage, and we mean it.
- Culture. How cannabis moves through art, communities, history, and public life, reported rather than romanticized.
- Products. Category trends, safety issues, recalls, and testing. Product coverage is never paid for, and no manufacturer can buy a favorable word from this desk.
Who writes this site
Times of Cannabis is produced by a small independent editorial team. We publish under the masthead rather than under individual names. That is a deliberate choice, made for two reasons. The first is legal caution: cannabis remains prohibited in many places, and staff who report on it honestly should not carry personal exposure for doing so. The second is that we want the work judged on its sourcing and accuracy rather than on personalities. The masthead is accountable for every word. If a story is wrong, the publication answers for it through our corrections policy, and the route to us is always open at support@timesofcannabis.com.
How the site is funded
We are independently owned. No cannabis producer, retailer, brand, investor group, or advocacy organization holds any stake in this publication. Revenue comes from advertising and clearly disclosed affiliate links, and the wall between that revenue and our editorial decisions is described plainly in our ownership and funding page. Sponsored material, when it appears, is labeled so that no reader could mistake it for news.
Who this site is for
Our readers are adults in places where engaging with this subject is lawful for them: patients trying to understand a medical program, professionals working inside the industry, investors reading past the press releases, policymakers and researchers, and curious members of the public who want the facts without the cheerleading.
